This R.E.D. Friday, we honor Airman First Class Elizabeth N. Jacobson of the U.S. Air Force, a Security Forces Airman who served with the 586th Expeditionary Security Forces Squadron in Iraq. On September 28, 2005, at just 21 years old, Jacobson was killed when an improvised explosive device struck her convoy near Camp Bucca. She is remembered as the first female Airman killed in Operation Iraqi Freedom and the first Security Forces Airman lost in combat since Vietnam. As we wear red today, we honor her courage, her sacrifice, and the legacy she left behind.
