This R.E.D. Friday, we honor Lieutenant Susan Ahn Cuddy of the U.S. Navy, the first Korean American woman to serve in the Navy and the first female gunnery officer. During World War II, she trained naval aviators in aerial gunnery before later serving as a naval intelligence officer. At a time when both racial and gender barriers stood in her way, Cuddy answered the call to serve her country with determination and excellence. As we wear red today, we honor her dedication, her pioneering spirit, and the example she set for generations of Americans who followed.
