This R.E.D. Friday, we honor the Granite Mountain Hotshots, an elite wildland firefighting crew from the Prescott Fire Department in Arizona. On June 30, 2013, while battling the Yarnell Hill Fire near Yarnell, Arizona, 19 of the crew's 20 members were overrun by rapidly advancing flames and made the ultimate sacrifice in the line of duty. The loss of the Granite Mountain Hotshots was the deadliest wildfire incident for U.S. firefighters in decades and the greatest loss of firefighter life since September 11, 2001. As we wear red today, we remember these 19 heroes and the families, friends, and communities who carry their legacy forward.
