This R.E.D. Friday, we honor U.S. Air Force Master Sergeant John A. Chapman, a Combat Controller who gave his life during the Battle of Takur Ghar in Afghanistan on March 4, 2002. After being wounded, Chapman regained consciousness, reengaged the enemy alone, and continued fighting to protect his teammates until he was fatally wounded. His actions, captured via drone footage, earned him the Medal of Honor in 2018. He is the first Airman since Vietnam to receive this highest military award—his bravery lives on as a lasting example of heroism.
