This R.E.D. Friday, we honor Technician Fourth Grade Laverne Parrish, U.S. Army, for his extraordinary valor in the Philippines during World War II on January 18, 1945. Amidst fierce combat, he risked — and ultimately gave — his life to protect his comrades and push against overwhelming enemy forces.

For his selfless sacrifice, he was awarded the Medal of Honor posthumously. As we wear red today, we remember his courage and pay tribute to all who have fallen in service of freedom.
