Today, we honor Lieutenant Milton Ernest Ricketts. Ricketts was posthumously awarded the Medal of Honor on November 6, 1942. He received the honor for his heroic actions during the Battle of the Coral Sea on May 8, 1942, where he sacrificed his life to prevent a fire from spreading on the USS Yorktown after a bomb explosion. His bravery saved the lives of many crew members and protected the ship.
