This R.E.D. Friday, we honor Specialist Lori Ann Piestewa of the United States Army, who made the ultimate sacrifice during the Iraq War on March 23, 2003. Serving with the 507th Maintenance Company, Piestewa was critically injured during a convoy ambush near Nasiriyah, taken prisoner, and later died of her wounds. She is remembered as the first Native American woman killed in combat while serving in the U.S. military. As we wear red today, we honor her sacrifice and the families who carry that loss every day.
