This R.E.D. Friday, we honor Medal of Honor recipient Sergeant Major John L. Canley of the U.S. Marine Corps. From January 31 through February 6, 1968, during the Battle of Huế in Vietnam, then-Gunnery Sergeant Canley repeatedly crossed fire-swept terrain to carry wounded Marines to safety. After his commanding officer was severely wounded, Canley assumed command of the company. For his extraordinary courage, selfless leadership, and devotion to his Marines, Sergeant Major Canley was awarded the Medal of Honor on October 17, 2018.
