This R.E.D. Friday, we honor Sergeant La David T. Johnson of the U.S. Army, a Miami, FL native and soldier assigned to the 3rd Special Forces Group (Airborne). On October 4, 2017, during an ambush near the village of Tongo Tongo, Niger, Johnson courageously fought a numerically superior enemy force, continuing to engage the enemy under heavy fire until he succumbed to his wounds. For his extraordinary bravery and selfless actions, he was posthumously awarded the Silver Star. As we wear red today, we honor his courage, his sacrifice, and the legacy he left behind.
