This R.E.D. Friday, we honor Capt. Charles W. Jones, who in the summer of 1969 was on patrol with South Vietnamese regulars when a booby trap exploded, wounding many. Despite his own injuries, he carried several soldiers to a medical chopper for evacuation, only realizing he was hurt when a medic tossed him a roll of gauze.

For his bravery, Capt. Jones received the Purple Heart, Bronze Star, and the Gallantry Cross with Palm—one of the highest honors from the Republic of South Vietnam—for his unwavering valor and heroism.
