Honoring Master Sergeant John A. Chapman of the U.S. Air Force
This R.E.D. Friday, we honor Master Sergeant John A. Chapman of the U.S. Air Force, a Combat Controller assigned to the 24th Special Tactics Squadron. During the Battle of Takur Ghar, Afghanistan, on March 4, 2002, Chapman continued fighting after becoming separated from his team and mortally wounded, defending his fellow Americans against overwhelming enemy forces. His extraordinary heroism helped save the lives of his teammates, and in 2018 he became the first Air Force Combat Controller to receive the Medal of Honor.
