HOnoring U.S. Army Staff Sergeant: Alvin P. Carey
This R.E.D. Friday, we honor U.S. Army Staff Sergeant Alvin P. Carey, who gave his life on August 23, 1944, near Plougastel, France, during World War II.
When his unit was pinned by machine-gun fire, Carey crawled alone toward a fortified pillbox, hurling grenades under deadly fire. Though mortally wounded, he destroyed the position and cleared the way for his company to advance. Awarded the Medal of Honor posthumously, Carey's fearless actions remain a powerful testament to courage in combat.
