Today, we honor First Lieutenant Douglas B. Fournet, U.S. Army Infantry, for his extraordinary courage during the Vietnam War. On May 4, 1968, in the A Shau Valley, Lt. Fournet sacrificed his life to save his platoon by attempting to disable a claymore mine. The mine detonated, killing him instantly but sparing his men. For his selfless actions, he was posthumously awarded the Medal of Honor, a testament to his unparalleled bravery and sacrifice.
