HOnoring U.S. Army Master Sergeant Melvin O. Handrich
This R.E.D. Friday, we honor U.S. Army Master Sergeant Melvin O. Handrich, who was killed in action near Sobuk San Mountain, Korea, on August 26, 1950.
Wounded during a brutal night assault, Handrich refused evacuation, held his position for eight hours, and continued leading his men under fire until he was fatally shot. His bravery helped repel the enemy and earned him the Medal of Honor. His legacy is one of steadfast leadership and sacrifice.
